Ultrasonic Scaler

Our office is equipped with ultrasonic tooth cleaning technology to accompany scaling and root planing. This equipment is simply a scaler with a special tip that vibrates at a high rate and flushes out bacteria below the gum with water. As the tip glides over the tooth surface it is much more effective at removing hard buildup and calcium deposits than hand scaling alone. It will smooth out bumps and divots in the surface to prevent buildup. Surface stains can also be lifted during the process leaving your teeth whiter than before.

Here are some key features and functions of an ultrasonic scaler:

Ultrasonic Technology:
Ultrasonic scalers operate at high frequencies, typically between 20,000 and 50,000 Hz, creating rapid vibrations in the scaler tip. These vibrations generate sound waves that effectively break down and remove dental plaque and calculus.

Scaling and Debridement:
The primary function of an ultrasonic scaler is to remove hardened deposits of plaque and calculus from tooth surfaces. This is crucial for maintaining oral health because plaque buildup can lead to cavities and gum disease if left untreated.

Stain Removal:
In addition to plaque and calculus removal, ultrasonic scalers can also be used to eliminate extrinsic stains on teeth caused by factors such as smoking, coffee, or tea consumption. The scaler's tip can gently remove these stains without causing damage to the tooth's enamel.
